Herta Gertz Vase 1

Herta Gertz, born in Hanau, Germany, ran her own factory in Gelnhausen, Germany 1946-51. Came to Canada in the early 1950's. With her husband, she established B.C. Ceramics, Vancouver, in the mid 1950's. Production included work with experimental glazes and abstract sgraffito designs. This is vase 2816 from the late 1950's and is know as the 'Northern Lights' pattern. The pattern and colour are very much like Ruscha's 'Marocco' pattern which dates to around the same time. Her vases are either marked as shown or are marked as B.C. Ceramics.
