Barcelona and Gaudi

Post by dantheman on Sun Nov 23, 2008 11:52 am

Antoni Gaudi 1852-1926

We often use the word genus when talking about artists but in my opinion no one deserves that title more than Gaudi.
I have visited Barcelona on three occasions but never cease to be overawed by his work.

As you know Dan I have a family connection to Barcelona and I first became aware of his work during a visit to my aunty and grandparents as a child - his architecture looked magical to me then, and I imagined fairies or wizards lived there.

The biggest shame of all is that poor Antoni died prematurely as a result of a freak accident with a tram/trolleybus - such a shame - and this is the reason the Sagrada Familia was never finished - he died during it's construction.
