We chose Denby for our every day crockery, the quality of the 1970s stoneware is superb, much better than the later offerings that had far fewer layers of glaze.
We chose Westbury pattern as it sums up 1970s design.
The first piece we acquired was a meat plate that was bought for my o/h as a joke, her brother thought it was so terribly kitch that it would be funny to give it as a birthday present.
We now have the full service!

It's not as dark as that.
I love it as it's a cross between flower power and Magic Roundabout.

Nice glazes to this 6.5 in 170 mm diameter bowl - came with the batch of Scandi Studio pots.

Incised initial D to underside. Any ideas anyone?

I don't collect Denby but i use it every day, so I enjoy it more regularly than my collection.

Lynne, yours is a Diana Worthy piece, she used to design for Denby then went it alone with her Crich pottery in Derbyshire. She packed it up and emigrated .... New Zealand I think?

The Denby 'Trees' pattern (my absolute favourite Denby design) was produced in 1971 and for one year only - this would explain it's scarcity - in 3 years of looking I've only managed to track down two side plates :-(

Some more info below:

* 'Into the trees Denby Pottery have produced a new ten-piece range of stoneware called Trees. Two sizes of plate (6in and 8in) together with a cereal or soup bowl form the basis of the set, which also includes a milk jug, tea pot and coffee pot, mug and saucer, and a sugar bowl. The shape was designed by Gill Pemberton and the decoration - black trees set against a spotted sky and candy striped hills - was by Diana Woodcock Beckering.'

More from the Burlington range - these pastel colours were slightly later than the black & white above.
