San Marino Pottery Makers and Dates of Manufacture
Here is a short list of the best known potteries of San Marino
Marmaca : 1940 - 1964
Titano: 1952 - 1981, ‘TITANO’ stands for ‘MONTE TITANO’, the mountain San Marino was built on.
Arcas:1954 - 1981/82
SAM (Società Anonima Marina): 1955 - 1989
SACAS (renamed ACAS,Artigianato Ceramiche Artistiche Sammarinesi, in 1964): 1954 - 1990
Libertas 1955 -1987
Masi - 1937- 1949
Stella Polare (North Star): 1962 - 1989
The potters of San Marino concentrated essentially on art pottery for the tourist trade and the manufacture of unusual bottles
for the makers of Luxardo, a cherry-based liqueur.
I will probably have time over the next week to add some of the histories of these companies.
I should also mention that I also maintain a new forum devoted to Italian pottery

Re: Republic of San Marino (Italy)
that's great, thanks Walter - it's brilliant to have some proper info. Thanks also for letting us know about your own forum, perhaps you can give us a link to it - I'm sure we could all work together in our shared pursuit of facts and info ...
Re: Republic of San Marino (Italy)
Walter, you mentioned Luxardo, and the bottles they made for it - I don't suppose the decanter here is the type of thing is it? We've sold it now and these are the only photos I have (it sold before I had a chance to properly shoot and catalogue it). Our original thought was that this *might* have been by Cases (Spain) because of the distinctive chunky bark type texturing but the beautiful illustrations of the girls on each side are not typically Cases. It wasn't marked in any way - could it have been a Luxardo bottle?
A Brigitte Bardot type blonde on one side...

amd a Jackie O type brunette on the other... on the red glazed section you can see the remnants of a gold foil label (unreadable unfortunately)/

It was tall - around 15 inches with the stopper.

Thank you.

The bottles you have shown are very difficult to find but most Luxardo and Drioli Bottle collectors prefer the figurals such as shown. These range in price from about $20.00 to $50.00 or so.
