I agree Annette but my question was an attempt to ascertain the date line after which it is impossible to buy a piece made by the hand of Capron himself.

in the 90s capron was making his own sculptures had a couple of assistants but they were his pieces.Harry davis worked for bernard leach and my friend melinda made a lot of harrys pieces at the crowan pottery I think the important thing is the design not the hand most studio potters have someone throwing their pots. nowadays they are often in china rather than cornwall but thats another story

still seems odd to me,if I bought a Salvador Dali original painting and then found that it was his idea but painted by his assistant,I would feel like I'd been ripped off

well savador signed a huge nuber of blank sheets of paper with the old master painters even experts argue if the paintings are by the master or from the atelier generally they sketchted it and the had assistants fill in the colours the most expensive contemporary artist jeff koons has an army of assistants doing his paintings

I'm not a big fan of Vallauris generally however the work of certain artists and studios I do like. These bowls that Paul bought recently I think are fab - a great shape and nice drippy glazes.

my latest Gerbino bowl, the mixture of clay colours in the mosaic pieces seems more labour intensive than I have seen before, the walls of the bowl are also thicker.
I have an idea this may be an older piece but will have to research further....watch this space!

PS it cost £3.50

I'm still not sure about Vallauris, I occasionally see a piece and think ,Hey that looks pretty good but it feels a bit lightweight to me , metaphorically , I wonder if they did any big statement like pieces .

My claw vase is the nearest I have found although Capron pieces are the quality designs
