Re: Vallauris (South of France)
Vallauris is a region in the south of France, with a long history of pottery production by many different makers. Potteries of note include Massier and Foucard-Jourdan.

Re: Vallauris (South of France)
It was of special interest to me being a Poole pottery collector. The most famous Poole piece is a sunface produced by Tony Morris in the 1960s, shortly after a visit to several Vallauris potteries.
The sun face is very similar.

Re: Vallauris (South of France)

I figured I would bore you with a quick profile of the man behind this wonderful mosaic technique.
Jean Gerbino began his career in ceramics by working as a turner for the Massier workshop in Vallauris (1902-1905) He then left to set up his own pottery in Algeria where he was influenced by the wonderful Arab mosaic work and upon returning to Vallauris in 1919,he strove for 11 years, working in many of the Vallauris workshops to perfect the pottery that still bears his name.

Re: Vallauris (South of France)
Interesting - is that a kind of cigale on the top and if so is it pottery? Must say that most of the important pieces of V usually have a mark of some kind and not a date. What makes you think it is from V? It is not instantly recognisable to me as being a traditional V piece, but then 1939 is also slightly pre the boom age of the potters in the town. (Picasso became active circa 46). A slightly better photo could help when you can and I could then make a few enquiries this end.
You either love it or hate it

Bonjour a Tous

Very nice - I have a couple of dishes with a similar pattern by Auguste Lucchesi who worked from 1951 in Vallauris.
Have a lovely time!

Re: Vallauris (South of France)
Hello there
FPP = Faiences et Poteries Provencales = pottery created in 1950 by two partners Jean Rossignol and Joseph Calvas-Blanchon (Born 22/11/1914) It closed in 1967. Hope this helps. No idea what the B.34 stands for other than a model number.
