an eBayer's wishful thinking....

This was posted by Andy on the GMB and it's just so ridiculous I thought I should share it with you lot here. Not only is it NOT Lalique it's the most vile piece of cheap modern Chinese crap. It was probably made last week - I've seen these ugly things in charity shops - they're light as a feather and the most revolting pieces of 'glass' I've seen in a very long time.

The seller's description can only at best be described as wishful thinking - at worst a total and utter fabrication. ...

Riihimaen Lasi Vases, Koristepullo vase Nanny Still

Hi, Does anyone know if Nanny Still signed all of her pieces. I have found what I believe to be a Koristepullo vase but it has no signature. It is in a royal/cobalt blue which I have seen her use in other pieces. Lastly, is her work highly collectible and/or rare? There is some here in the US, and some collectors view her work as so so but there are also few who know much about her.

First of all a big hello, as I am new to this Forum

I have a bit an unusual request. A few days ago on the look for a present for my mother (a collector for modern glassware) I saw a beautiful Sugahara-Vase from about 1980. The problem was that the dealer put an unreasonable high price on it (I guess he had smelled that I really wanted this vase). Normally I'm really not the person who starts to complain and haggle about prices; I know that it is expensive to keep a shop and so on, and beautiful ...

Has anyone here used the services of a glass restoration company? It's something I'm thinking of doing, I seem to have amassed a personal collection of really nice vases with either waterstaining or small chips that I'd like to look into getting restored.

What I'd like to know is a rough idea of how much it costs, how long it might take and how successful, in your opinion, the restoration was.

Not Holmegaard - again

Browsing around Kingston Antique Centre today Paul pointed out to me a cabinet stuffed full of coloured/opal cased glass vases labelled up as Holmegaard Carnaby range and with high price tags - everyone of the vases in the cabinet were, as far as we could tell without being able to handle them, modern Far Eastern lookeylikes. None of them were in known HG Carnaby shapes so the dealer really has made a pretty basic error - perhaps he's been on eBay and seen all the spurious attributions.

Just wanted to comment on the fella on the Antiques Roadshow last Sunday who brought in several lovely pieces of Holmegaard 'Carnaby' range which he said he'd bought for one or two pounds each and a fabulous Mdina Crizzle Stone which he said a friend had bought at a carboot sale and then given him. Andy McConnell did the appraisal.

Does anyone find it hard to believe this man's story? I do. You very rarely find HG Carnaby going for a few quid anywhere these days (and I'm always looking) ...
