can't shed any light on the Mr Shabner, but thought i'd just share with you all a painting that my husband bought as a local auction, from the 1960s. It's by the artist Leighton-Jones and is from his series of Urchin pictures. This gives me the creeps because of those Crying Boy urban myths of the 1980s so i've made him put it facing the wall until we can sell it on.

Being a big fan of the kitschness that is Tretchikoff and Lynch it stands to reason I'd also adore the work of Lou Shabner. I assumed Shabner to be American since the ladies he painted have a very American 60s & 70s look to them and much of his work seems to turn up in the States however, having tried unsuccessfully to find out more about him I found a site that suggests Shabner was born in Enfield (London) - can anyone refute or confirm this and perhaps add some more info about the life ...

At an auction recently Paul was very taken with a poster up for sale of a surrealist exhibition held in London and Exeter in April and May of 1967 - we bid and won the poster. I'll put a photo up here when I get a chance. The poster was designed by a fella called Conroy Maddox - having conducted a search on Google he seemed to have been a crazy and very interesting character (he died fairly recently). The links below to his obituary in The Guardian and a Wikipedia link paint a great picture of ...
