Sadly, there is also an obligation on buyers to do a little basic research, be more aware of what they're buying and who they're buying from. It's a tough lesson to learn but this buyer will find out at some point and hopefully won't make the same mistake twice.

The question is, why did the buyer want it in the first place??? Thanks, Pip, for the link to real Lalique. As I suspected no giant chunks of tat on the front of any of them!

Fake Lalique
Hi. If you ever have any questions about a piece being fake R Lalique or not, the place to go is Fake Lalique at RLalique.com! There are literally a thousand photos of pieces that are not the work of Rene Lalique that have been passed off as Lalique, and also a free authentication for owners of pieces that they have questions about. There also an unbelievable amount of other information on Rene Lalique, both historical and current.
