Alleged counterfeit Troika
There's a bit of a hoo haa going on on another board about an eBay seller allegedly faking Troika - do a UK eBay search for 'Troika tray' then look at all three listings by the same seller.
I personally believe they're wronguns and the seller already has two negs for allegedly selling fakes - any opinions?

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
the pic seems very strange....I can't quite put my finger on why?

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
... I think they're counterfeit... I'm going to keep my eye on this seller. Interestingly - I've just found this eBay listing also saying that they're fakes (although whether it's the seller that's faking them as the listing suggests I wouldn't like to speculate):-

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
I remember blanks being sold on ebay that supposedly came from troika , fair enough , what he's doing is basically colouring them in and flogging them as the artists real deal , it doesn't matter who painted them he is the one selling them therefore he is responsable , Dan I don't think all the backbone in the world will stop it , Ebay don't give a monkeys , remember the fake drunken bricklayers , .

That listing won't stay long - eBay will remove it because it 'names and shames' unfortunately but good on them for trying to alert people to the issue.
Those blanks Ed - were they Troika do you think? I don't suppose you remember the seller or listing details?

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
Pip, I don't remember the seller , the listing said unused troika blanks that were just left over , they were on ebay twice about two yrs ago at about £20 -30, I remember them because I thought about buying one but decided they looked carp , the tray or dish has all the right credentials ,but if the guy says the paint is coming off then they have not been fired , it makes you sick the things some people do to make a buck .

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
Apparently Troika did sell some original blanks, but what's more worrying is the fact that the original factory moulds were also sold at some point so there's a possibility that once the original blanks have been fraudulently painted and sold more could be made...

Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
I've invited the person who's trying to bring these fakes to light to join us here so it can be discussed more and see if there's anyway this board can help.
Re: Alleged counterfeit Troika
Hi all
The original blanks or biscuit pieces were genuine, they were purchased as a job lot from the closed Newlyn pottery in 1983 by a private collector. They have been available to purchase over the last few years. Thye were purchased by Troika collectors as an example of the process of the manufacture to add to collections.
Obviously some have fallen into the wrong hands and have been repainted.
The pieces appear cold painted and the colours are very wrong, sometimes very bright, combine this with inconsistent markings and overpaint then you have a potentially faked piece, you may also find that the colours will come away with a bit of help, especially the base marks. The inside should be smooth gloss white/ cream glaze. We have seen around 25 pieces sold lately by various parties, we also suspect that larger high value pieces have been re moulded and sold.
Alot of people have been duped and someones made alot of money.
Regards Ade
If its OK I can add some pics of examples!
