Help ID - Small Round Redware Pot

Hi again. This small pot (size of a hardball) was given to us as gift during 1960s. Most likely American. Have you seen something like this? Interior green glaze. The base mark has two letters (ap?), what do you think it reads? Any idea the artist? Appreciate any comments. - James
