Conroy Maddox - last of the British surrealists

Post by Pip on Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:32 pm

At an auction recently Paul was very taken with a poster up for sale of a surrealist exhibition held in London and Exeter in April and May of 1967 - we bid and won the poster. I'll put a photo up here when I get a chance. The poster was designed by a fella called Conroy Maddox - having conducted a search on Google he seemed to have been a crazy and very interesting character (he died fairly recently). The links below to his obituary in The Guardian and a Wikipedia link paint a great picture of one of the last great British surrealists ...

That was very interesting pip, born in Ledbury ,we are not far from there and pass through on the way to Malvern antiques fairs , I had never heard of him before , what a fantastic name , CONROY MADDOX ,he deserves to be known for that alone .
