I am tempted to say Alan Brough , I know the mark doesn't match exactly to the studio book or some sites but I also know he used quite a lot of different variations of AB , That's my Guess anyway .Ed

Ok thank's had a look and his work seems more solid in its pieces than this as the bowl sides are barely 2mm thick?

I think Alan was also very capable of doing very delicate pieces as well , stoneware and porcelain , Just found out that he sadly passed away a couple of months ago aged 88.

Nice little (4 1/2inches) bud vase, nice green and white finish. Mark appears to be conjoined AFF. All ID suggestions appreciated,
Thanks John

I know that it looks like AFF but I think that it is ARF - Annette Fuchs. She started out working at Briglin before working for herself. She died in 1992 and was sister of the potter, Tessa Fuchs.

I think that it is by Annette Fuchs, Naomi. I haven't seen this ID before but might have a similar vintage item by her that I can dig out and check.

The vase here was made towards the end of her life, if my memory is correct, and I think that the lidded pot that Naomi has is earlier.

That didn't take me long, as I remembered where the bowl that I have was.

My bowl is a dark green colour but with a similar carved type decoration and the foot is done in exactly the same way i.e. turned to give a small foot ring and glazed within.

So Annette Fuchs and I would think that it is most likely 1960s or early 1970s.

Annette Fuchs Empty Annette Fuchs

Post by skipposal February 25th 2013, 7:17 pm

The first piece of studio pottery I ever bought was by this artist. Annette Fuchs was born in 1939 and died in 1992. She lived near Henley-on-Thames from the mid-1960s as did my Aunt. On a visit to my relative some time in the early 1970s I bought this pot from a table display in a village hall somewhere nearby. I assume Annette actually sold it to me but sadly I can only remember the table of pots not the potter herself! I was in my early teens and gave the pot to my mum. I recently wangled it back from her and imagine my delight upon finding out the long forgotten name of the maker. I also found out that she trained at Camberwell under Hans Coper and/or Lucie Rie. She then worked at Briglin with her better known sister Tessa before setting up on her own first in London and then Oxfordshire. The pot has sadly been damaged over the years but I still love it to bits. I've since bought another piece by her which appeared on this forum for identification a few month ago. That one was porcelain whereas the piece shown here is stoneware. DM me if any of you dealers have more pieces by her, she doesn't come up very often and I'd like more by her. Piece shown is 8.1cm (height)

Very nice. Is there a connection with Eileen Lewenstein? The clay, style and glaze is similar

Looks like Annette Fuchs' mark, ex-Briglin. Clay and glaze are right too.
