Unmarked pottery tankard (jug without pouring spout). Sand coloured clay, could you suggest an area this was made and possible makers.

Treacle glazed tankard. Possibly mochaware, but it's missed having the mocha decoration put on or the glaze has hidden it. There were a number of mochaware potteries in the 19th Century, making tavern-wares, which didn't mark their pieces. And a few in the 20th Century, most of whom did. I suspect this is early 20th Century. Possibly Kensington Pottery, or one of the Devon / Torquay potteries.

Thanks, NaomiM for your reply, I realise this is a tricky one to ID.
This was acquired in Eton near Windsor so may not have travelled very far.I am leaning towards late 19th century London Redware, the clay contains a considerable amount of iron oxide. Just my thoughts, any comments are welcome.

Picked up a mug with a similar treacle glaze and red clay which has a faint ink stamp: Gladstone Pottery Museum. If yours looks relatively new then it might be from the same place.

...should have added, the mug is a copy of a 19th Century design.

Hi NaomiM, Not new, their are signs of use on the interior, old staining caused by liquids which have left a ring around the inside. It looks like an ale tankard and seems to have been used for this purpose. There is no marking on the base, the black mark is a pool of glaze which has been ground down.
