On the off chance that someone may have come across these before or recognise the style.

A large(ish) toad, with another on its back.
aprox 9cm tall, 10cm front to back, 11cm wide at back legs.

It's hand made, and I'd say made by a 'professional' or at least some one with a lot of skill. Possibly made from terracotta.
Obviously at first glance, it looks a bit like Tremar - but it's actually nothing like their stuff when handled.

Even the little one on its back has the same amount of detail.

I suspect it's either Otagiri, Japan. Or Tyn Llan, Wales. Or neither.

Found another one. Google. "Pottery Mother Frog Toad w Baby on Back Animal Figurine" But no Id on that one either.

Found an Otagari salt and pepper mother and baby frog set, but they have a base to the frog. However, it might be an earlier version of a traditional form, made in Japan.

Thanks Naomi.
I think we can rule out otagari, they are totally different and the Tyn Llan ware also looks rather different (or at least what I've looked at.
But I have found the unnamed one. Found one on ebay at the moment, one sold at auction last year and a similar toad without a baby on its back, also on ebay at the moment. They are all smaller than mine at 2.5 inches tall - but do look to be by the same maker. As all 3 have appeared in the USA, I wonder if they could be made in one of the Southern States?

The glaze is typical of Japan. If the others are located on the West Coast then they may have been imported from Japan. Does seem to rule out the UK, though.

Another old one.
I've found some identical ones.
Described as SHIGARAKI POTTERY.
One on etsy says it's a lucky charm talisman, Japan, from the 1940's

Not sure if they are still being made, or if mine is that old, but it certainly seems to have some age to it.
Some even have 2 babies on the back - I wonder if they are doubly lucky?
