Re: Vande Ashtray Australia
Hi - I'm downunder :) but no expert on Vande...
There's a couple of pages in Dorothy Johnson's books "The People's Potteries" on Vande, and from that I can tell you Vande was founded by Samual Vandeluis (emigrated to Australia from London in 1948) and the pottery operated in the Sydney suburb of Mosman from 1948-1958. There are some serious collectors of Vande around the traps, and one of the determinants of demand is the artist who actually did the painting.
There's actually a Vande exhibition on at the moment at Mosman Library - see the following link...
http://www.mosman.nsw.gov.au/mosman/history/potteries
One of the collectors who contributed pieces to the exhibition is active on the Australian eBay discussion board (Coins and Collectables I think). You may think about posting a question there (or I can on your behalf if you can't).
There's also an Australian pottery forum at http://www.flickr.com/groups/austpots/ but the focus there is on pots from 1960 on, so Vande is just prior.

Re: Vande Ashtray Australia
I think it's more likely to be an Australian Waratah and Flannel Flower. Just a lucky guess
