In 1968 we bought from Adrian Share in Sunderland a Guy Rogers Maryland four-seater sofa and armchair in black Cirrus material (the best faux leather available) for £160.00, a lot of money at the time.
Ten years later, at a local sale room, I bought a similar three-seater Maryland sofa for £12.00.
Fast forward to late 1990s when I bought a 1970s Guy Rogers settee/day bed in black Cirrus with a rosewood frame with loose cushions in the local jumble sale for £10.00, spending a couple of hundred pounds in renovations. [It is unusual in that the back support is veneered rosewood curved at the corners]. By this time the Maryland furnishings had seen better days.
We moved to the Dordogne in the Spring of 2003 and took the settee/day bed with us. We tried to sell it before we moved back to the UK earlier this year, without success. Unfortunately it did not make the final cut and remains in the empty house, which is for sale. Guy Rogers furniture is gradually appearing more frequently on eBay with price tags of several hundred pounds for much less stylish settees than ours in France. Did we make a mistake is leaving the settee behind? I hope not.
Anyone else with fond memories of Guy Rogers designs? Vizibell

Found pics taken last year at our French house.

HELP!
Don't think this is working. I have taken pics from little used French main computer (prefer laptop which is away for repair as backspace key is broken). The two pics I wish to post have been renamed Guy Rogers daybed 1 & Guy Rogers daybed 2 (they were in a block of four pics which included a Danish dining table). I have used second upload option (cos first option kept bleeping at me!) and above is the result. What am I doing wrong?
Cheers, Vizibell

Now that I have the hang of posting pics I have got round to displaying images of our Guy Rogers (1970s?) daybed/settee with rosewood curved frame and "Cirrus" covered cushions. It's not the most comfortable of settees but it does look nice. It's in France but as I recall it is just under 2m wide. All cushions are removable from frame; the two side arms lock in to the frame with dowels and there are rubber straps supporting the two seat cushions. Any lovers of Guy Rogers out there?

No - it came here on a roof rack! Scary journey, but well worth it in the end.

Thanks again, vizibell Most Excellent

Seemed like a great idea at the time - but the padded crate we concocted for it ended up being huge & we hadn't taken the cross winds between Narbonne & the border in to account... But the sofa is so well built - it came through the journey with no damage at all!

Reminiscing: Guy Rogers furniture Empty ref. Guy Rogers

Post by chairlinnet April 10th 2012, 9:03 pm

I have just been spring cleaning a Guy Rogers chair I bought on Ebay in 2004
.....chrome legged lounge arm chair part of a Heals of Tottenham Ct Rd in 60s and recovered.
This meant the previous sealers could not get a good price so went to Ebay.

A few years ago I saw the same model chair in brown leather (original fabric) in a National Trust house on its first day open to public
The house had to wait till end of WWII to be competed...in London area.
The house was furnished with early post war style as i recall....odd....blue Bristol Glass Chandelier above a spiral staircase.
My memory may fail me........

The other thing I chanced upon in my enthusiasm 2004 strength
was the the originalquarrymen.co.uk, Colin in fact, had worked for Guy Rogers in his first job on leaving school at Speke

I also have half a corner unit and love both pieces not least for the chrome legs and the comfort.

Curiousity value only reason for posting here. In the 60s my first lounge furniture was Stevens (Stephens?) and more trad but super beech frame
and high rub fabric that survived a long family life for 4 of us.

Now Guy and I keep each other company :-))
