Roger Ross-Turner, Abbotsbury

Owl pottery lampbase 10" High made in 1951, chip to top rim and one ear .

Can't find out much about him on the net except this article

this article has him dying in the 1960's , the studio book puts his demise at 1978, but as he was 78 when he died maybe the book got a mixed up.
so born around mid 1880's .
worked at Chesilbourne 1949-57 and Abbotsbury , Dorset after that ..
His wife Hilda also a potter died in 1974 , her mark appears identical to some farnham pottery sgraffito wares .

I would have thought Penny Simpson but 1961 seems a little early. The mark seems to be 61 PS

I found another with full marks. It is a Trinity posy pot by Abbots Bury pottery.

You do seem to have found that it is a potter that works or worked in Abbotsbury in Dorset (near the Swannery) but the initial signature of the potter is still a mystery.

Roger Ross Turner alongside his wife Hilda worked at Abbotsbury in the 1950's , the incised mark could be theirs , I had a slipware owl lamp by him posted somewhere on here , this could be an experimental piece by them .

Different glaze, plus second has marks on all three pot bases, first picture shows at least one pot base unmarked.

I've seen a posting on this website for an owl lamp by Roger Ross Turner, and also Abbotsbury Pottery trinity posy pots.  I thought it might be useful in future for people researching such pieces if I  uploaded an image of this card listing the output of the Abbotsbury Pottery.  It came with a 'cockie pot'  - oversize tankard decorated with cockerels.

Great Stuff , apparently he was a bit of a Character .

Looking again, both pots are by TR. The mark on the upper image is '5 TR 9' rather than 'PS 61'
