S Bridgwood & Son, Anchor Pottery.

I'm a bit puzzled as it says used for Limoges. This piece LOOKS like the Limoges I know, but is it? I'm very confused! Please help.

Where does it say "used for Limoges"?

This is the 1885 mark for Sampson Bridgwood & Sons, Anchor Pottery, Longton. Established in 1805 they made porcelain until 1887 then earthenware, according to Godden.

From the 1870's they seem to have produced a range called Limoges Parisian Granite which may be the connection?

That link doesn't seen to work now. At the bottom of the page for S Bridgwood it has:

Initials used on ware for identification:
'semi-porcelain',
'porcelaine opaque'
'limoges'

That's where I saw it. Thanks for your reply.

I think "limoges" refers only to the type of paste.

You know, like 'semi-porcelain' and 'porcelaine opaque', 'limoges' refers to the type of porcelain paste used to make those pieces.

I see. I thought that Limoges porcelain was made in Limoges and was not just a generic term for a type of porcelain. I think that's where my confusion lay. I live and learn!
