Olivier Strebelle (Belgium)

I believe this could be Danish but any info would be great.

It's Belgian!

This beautiful piece is by Belgian ceramist, painter and sculptor Olivier Strebelle. I have pictures of similar dishes with identical marks. The mark shows an intertwined O and S, 58 is the date. Olivier Strebelle is one of the more important Belgian ceramists of the postwar scene. He's still working, a gigantic sculpture of his hand will be unveiled in Bejing later this year. The date 58 is very important, because it was the year of the Belgian World's Fair Expo 58, a milestone in Belgian postwar architecture and art. (and indeed in the whole world). I'm not saying this piece was exhibited at the fair, it could have been sold as a souvenir and brought back to France, who knows. There's a Venini vase -if I remember correctly- somewhere on this site that got a price during Expo 58 as well. But just look at the refined, fluid shape of the dish and the subtle colouring. I'd love to have it myself!

Thank you so much for your info - I really am delighted to discover its origin - apologies for thinking it was Danish - I had thought of the O being crossed through as in the Danish letter. I will check out the site.
