Old Jardiniere, Any ideas on maker please?
Found this at a fair this morning. I love the colour and design, I believe it to be probably early 20th Century as it just had 'England' impressed in it. Hope the base photo is clear enough, the numbers read 1437 if it is not.

hi,
looks like several different art potteries' wares: burmantofts, linthorpe, ault, but i would plump for Bretby, although it doesn't have the sun mark.

I am thankful of your opinion, it gave me a starting point. I have had a look now at some examples of the makers you recommended and it is a shame that it does not have a full backstamp. Do you think it was maybe a second?

no, i wouldn't have thought it was a second quality piece - just one which if it's Bretby, didn't get the full works in terms of impressed marks. I'm not a Bretby expert and it may be that they didnt always use the rising sun mark.

Thanks again for the info. It can go in the 'nearly identified' pile for now. I have been on a bit of run of picking up unmarked bits and, as frustrating as they can be sometimes, I prefer them to my usual run of the mill bits
