Loved a recent episode of 8 out of 10 cats where Mel is given the choice between Jason Strathern or Professor Cox and she says "give me Cox every time".
I feel that way about apples too.

The Berkeley Collection was sold last year by Philips.
Hans Coper comes in at the most expensive.

i wouldn't be afraid to say that if a piece came onto the forum without a mark, there'd be quite a few comments along the line of, "i'm sorry, but I think this is night school work.... a happy amateur...but i like it, it's kinda quirky...but don't plan your pension on it..."

To be fair, I've seen some nice things by here, for sure. But generally, the blobby, half-thrown, half-assembled, half-chucked-up-by-your-pet-cat look does nothing for me and is over-priced IMO.

funny you should say that bisto I recently looked a a page of pinterest pots the only ones I really liked were by beatrice wood I'd forgotten who she was untill I looked her up hoping to find some for sale

Whilst i agree with you Potty about the "does nothing for me anyway", I think i would find it hard to say if a living potter/ceramicist's work was overpriced because I feel the price they choose to put on something is up to them and I wouldn't want to tell someone they're over-egging their pudding, so to speak. If it really is "worth" something, time will tell and when that potter has deceased, perhaps its true value will be revealed.

The issue with potters like Coper and Rie is more about notoriety and people jumping on a bandwagon, inflating prices to make a quick buck.

I've nothing against the potter herself or her pricing and to be honest it was more the secondary market I was thinking about.

Like many living potters her work isn't easy to sell on the secondary market and if it does sell it is usually for a lower price than that which the original buyer paid.

I've no idea to be honest, I don't even know what she sells them for herself.

My opinion is mainly based on Maak auction results, e.g a jug that sold for £1300.

To my mind that was "overpriced", but at he end of the day it is what someone else was prepared to pay.
