Here is a photo of a blue vase I recently dug up at a antique store.

Here are the markings on the bottom

Here is an example of the same vase, only in red, on 1st dibs.
Now the dealer on 1st Dibs attributes this to Alvino Bagni, but I can find no further information. I'm just curious if Bitossi or some other company did the actual production. Unlike many Raymor pieces this has "Raymor" signed on the bottom, rather than just a paper label stuck on. I'm thinking this might mean it was done as a specific contract piece for Raymor?

I know Italian pottery is very confusing when it comes to these issues but any info would be helpful. I was going to post this in the European-Italian Pottery section but then realized that there was no actual Raymor thread, which makes sense since they were just the importer as a rule, but then I didn't know where to actually post it. Is it Bitossi? Should there be a separate thread for Bagni? Isn't definitely his design? I'll put it over in the european pottery section but was hoping to get a little more info so I could correctly label/post it either in the proper thread already there or in a new thread if that's necessary.

Thanks!

It is very confusing because, as you say, Raymor simply commissioned items from various manufacturers and sold them to retailers, Bitossi being one of the main manufacturers in Italy, but not the only one.
Often pieces with numbering such the example on your vase are attributed to Bitossi, but you can only be 100% sure if it has a B in it, and this doesn't.
Also, if Bitossi was busy, they would sub-contract to other local manufacturers.

It's certainly an area that needs far more research done on it before we can give 100% positive attributions, but you could say it's likely to be by Bitossi.

Hi

Looking at Mark Hill's Alla Moda page 216 - Bagni put an R before the numbers to indicate Raymor. I can't see the same in the Bitossi section so I would say your vase is Bagni for Raymor.

Here is a Bagni vase just delivered to me with more recent Alvino Bagni for Anthropologie which is mentioned in page 25 of said book.

Looks like V.10/G.116

I'm on an Italian ceramics group on Faceboook. Would you mind if I ask them? If you're on FB it's the Midcentury Italian Ceramic and Bitossi Collectors and Sellers Group if you'd like to join and post your photos there yourself.

They say a stamped ITALY mark like that usually means it's by Alvino Bagni

Difficult to tell on Italian stuff. It's not like other pottery's shape and pattern number. It can be an export, wholesaler & retailer's number.

Thanks

I have one other piece of Bagni - the attribution makes sense as they are known for attention to detail and fine quality - the inside of this is glazed shiny blue
