Great. I will be doing my best to grab everyone's money. I have some pretty good tiles with me this time and a nice group of Japanese studio tea cups, bowls and what I take to be chopstick stand but could be anything Alexandra Palace Fair - North London - Page 2 124209 Fingers crossed I won't starve for the rest of the month and people will like my wares Excellent

I should be able to recognise your stand from that and will come and say hello. I am desperate to spend money on the right things too.

Here is the stand at the end of December in Woking. You may recognise the odd thing. Some things have already got sent to an auction in mid Feb but you get the idea.

Just back from Ally Pally and spent some money, although not much studio pottery on offer. I bought two pieces from the very first stall I went to and at the very end went back to see Mordeep, who I had introduced myself to earlier. On my return, he offered me a more than generous discount on a small lidded pot that would have been rude to have turned down.

I bought a few things also but only smalls - nothing big nothing that knocked me off my feet. Either my tastes have gone up or there is a general dearth of decent quality mid 20th century stuff.

I don't look at jewellery and the like so can't comment on that but did expect to see more good quality 20th century stuff than I did today. I didn't get there until 10.45 but don't imagine that it had all be sold before then.

It's a strange old fair that acts in reverse to most by getting busier as it goes on (so no major rush at the start). I must admit we do load the stall with the 19th century stuff for Alexander palace as it gets a lot of attention. We could have stuffed the stall with a mountain of studio but it's mainly £5-£30 now with no big names and I am not sure MR S-Pots would have been tempted by much. The fair today was a little slower than normal and I did see some gaps but I am pretty certain the next one in May will be packet out with dealers and buyers as normal. Saying all that I think I can eat after some kind buyers bought a reasonable amount of my old tat.

For those interested in such things here is the stall as it looked last night before the fair

Hadn't realised that the unloading area was quite so close. Is it indoors?

Its a Chinese carved horn that my father picked up. Obviously a fertility symbol. No idea of the of the mythology behind it but I will be glad when it has gone as it is shocking my pottery buyers lol.

90% of the time you drive into the covered hall next door and then wheel your stuff into the main hall when you set up on Saturday. During last summer they asked some stallholders at the far end of the hall to load from the front of the building and that's obviously outside. But so far touch wood its a very easy fair to set up and pack down.

It's a shame the powers that be don't let us post photos of stalls in all their glory as you have a half decent looking one there.

but the reason you know he has a half decent one is that he posted pictures of it back in February and "the powers that be" have done nothing to object or remove it.

English never was my strong point SP, but i did get an A in A Level Art! - My M meaning did not come across. I fully understand why there are lots of rules but it so strange to go on some of the other forums where they don't care and anything goes. I understand what it like where brand new user create an account just to blatantly advertise.....but I would still very much like to see photos of some of the regulars stalls. Personally I don't see much harm in that, somewhere in the members area.

I wasn't aware this forum had any rules about showing pictures of stalls? I can understand objections to people crudely trying to sell through a website like this by linking items they have for sale at the moment on ebay or encouraging people to buy what they are showing of the makers threads. But showing a pile of pots you can't buy unless you happened to have been at that fair the day before? Can't see the problem. Off course I would have removed it if asked but I like to think most are more relaxed about things. I use this forum for chatting about pottery, to learn and to teach when I can. Nothing else.

Do feel free to shout at me if I post a picture tomorrow with a come buy from me on Sunday tag line on it though. That would not be cool Alexandra Palace Fair - North London - Page 2 131725

I have no objection to seeing pictures of stalls. I don't know if there are any rules on this. I recall Dan's photos of all his Dartington and Poole, etc, laid out on the lawn in readiness to be sold. Were they deleted? Nic used to be a stickler for rules but since he left i think things have relaxed somewhat. Only links to eBay listings still get removed because they're so temporary the info is soon lost. I try to change them to Pinterest links where possible.
