Help to identify a tea cup and saucer

Hello,

I'm just wondering if anybody can help identify the manufacturer of a tea cup and saucer please? I've attached a photo and the only markings are on the base of the tea cup which say 'Made In England'.

One of the Staffordshire factories cashing in on Clarice Cliff, albeit a bit later. Meakin springs to mind. Always useful to have a photo of the base; it can help to rule out a number of potteries.

Looks from here to be transfer printed rather than hand painted. As the majority of the actual transfers got made in Germany before being put on things in various countries. That rules out apart from the odd short period, England anytime from 1914 through to the mid 1940's. It's a little known fact but the removal of these transfers from English factories is a contributing factor to the rise of hand decoration like Clarice Cliff, putting it simply the public did not want German part made china and they could not leave everything blank.

I side with NaomiM here and think it is a later made item in the style of a late 1920's early 1930's set. They made things like this right up until very recently. Although the more modern sets do tend to say who made them or contain washing instructions. Seeing the bottom would give us a better idea.

Reminiscent of Shelly china shape and design, but could have been made by any
of numerous Staffs potteries during the 1930s.
Many wares were all or partly hand-coloured in on the transfer outlines.
I'll bet the red is at least hand-painted.

I have seen the pattern before but can't recall the pottery............ but it may come to me. However, an image of the base with the writing could help.

At least the painter's marks on the base show that denbydump was correct about the red being painted. The impressed mark on the saucer like a 1, might it say something?

The colours remind me of Ainsley china. We do get this pattern in the local charity shops every so often so I'll check out the mark next time I see it.
