Cleaning Glass Empty Cleaning Glass

Post by 22 Crawford St. February 12th 2017, 6:28 pm

Picked up an Niils Landberg ORREFORS SOMMERSO Vase - Small one very cheaply but it has some water staining inside and typically it's about half way up the neck. How do I clean it ?

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=orrefors+cased+glas+nils&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiyvbybl4vSAhWjIcAKHXO6BMMQ_AUICSgC&biw=1536&bih=790#imgrc=m97RJ7CqEBPrQM:

I do have s pot of Magic Balls but they seem to take a long time. Do I swill it out with water? Diluted bleach? Bleach seems to leave a white residue behind also?

Avoid bleach. You could try one of the limescale removers like viakal. I've been told that soda flakes are very good. Apparently the best method, but slow and fiddly, is one of the fine grade polishers - jewellers rouge? - and a stick with a wad of tissue on the end to rub it in.

Petroleum jelly and also denture cleaning tablets have been said to work. A lot on the internet about various options.

If it is just scale, as opposed the the glass being attacked and iridised,
a wad of steel wool on a wooden stick will do the trick.

A very small wad, on a very thin stick!
Otherwise go for the burn, Toilet limescale remover also works ok.

Reporting back

Well the strongest seems to be the toilet cleaner mixed with a bit of water. 24 hrs later it did the most work. I'm sure the wire will will work but the neck and body is just impossible to reach (see link above for photo). Overall removed the worst of the marks but still obvious staining.
