Hi is the Ram an old one. or does the impressed mark mean it is one of the more recent limited editions?

This is a recent piece, bought in Capri in 2004, although I believe it's a 60's design. I think they still use this mark.

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 2 Empty another Bitossi question white lampbase

Post by cinnamoncat April 25th 2012, 9:03 am

Is this Bitossi? I have come across a picture of an identical lampbase searching the web that says it is but no other information on the site. would just like to confirm that it is.
It has no other identifying marks other than the series number, height and Italy. I did have a read on the excellent site on Bitossi ceramics and my gut feeling is that it is.
Is this an early piece or an export piece because it doesn't have the Bitossi B or mark? The impressed design on the base is not very uniform, glazed base and a substantial weight.
Thanks
Barb

Just picked this up in a charity shop - first bit of what I think is Bitossi - anyone confirm that - it has Italy to base and some numbers, it is 10" high.

Thanks Adam

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 2 Empty Londi Bitossi or not?

Post by Alex_s October 7th 2012, 1:15 pm

I know there were quite a few colourways around, and I know that some were unmarked (like this one). But do we think this is really Bitossi, or something else? It's a good heavy piece of pot, and the glaze is nice.

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 2 Empty NOT Bitossi?

Post by NaomiM December 3rd 2012, 12:36 pm

Just because it looks like Bitossi, doesn't mean it is by Bitossi.
This vase was bought by a tourist 15yrs ago from an established family pottery in Sardinia and is stamped on the base Sardartis Castelsardo.
Bitossi is part of the much larger Gruppo Colorobbia which supplies the same clays and oxides used by Bitossi worldwide, so anyone can produce their own Bitossi-style range of ceramics if they wished.

The vase shape, colouring and heaviness of the stamped decoration looks German to me.

Well just because it has a stamp of a region doesn't mean it came from there either , I would say that is Bitossi no matter what is impressed on the base it wouldn't be the first time with italian pottery , so why do you think the other piece is german ?( it may well be but why )

if this isn't bitossi then the whole thing needs reviewing

That's my worry.

I've been trying to confirm whether or not this brown vase is Bitossi. I'm 70% sure it is - it has the grog-filled clay, hand-stamped decoration, glazed base, and remains of a label that might be Bitossi or Raymor, but it's unmarked and the label's unreadable.
The other pieces I've found with the same pattern are also unmarked, but do have the right coloured rimini blu and are listed as Bitossi (on ebay, if that's worth anything). This may mean they were made for export and the retailer didn't want a pottery mark on it - which happened on some of Bitossi's pieces made for Raymor - or it's from another Italian pottery, maybe also retailed by Raymor.
Until I find a Bitossi - Raymor piece with the same pattern and it's label intact I won't know for certain.

The same vase (shape and pattern) in blue is on Mark Hill's book, as being from the "Spagnolo" (Spanish) range designed by Aldo Londi from c1963 and produced into the 1970s.

I'm still digging. At the moment I think you have to class them all under Bitossi, even if there are copycats, because I can't see a pottery making copycat Bitossi pots without being taken to court, so there must be a logical explanation such as being allowed to make them on licence, shipping them in for the tourists and pretending to make them, or maybe someone in the family moved to Sardinia and set up their own pottery.

Post by MirnaMinkoff January 13th 2013, 6:02 am

Still in shock but came across a vintage Aldo Londi, Bitossi Bull in the Rimini Blue for $20 today at the flea market. I could have easily got it for $15 or even less but I felt somewhat guilty the seller was so clueless about what she had. But given that one google search for "blue bull" would have told her what she had I can't feel to bad about someone being so lazy. I had given up hope of coming across any of the rimini blue pieces here because they are so well known and recognizable now a days. Also, this flea market is so low rent (and usually terrible) I had no worries about this being a reproduction, anything of a modern design that turns up there is always old. I tend to find one killer item there once a year for peanuts and it keeps me checking back.

I'm a first time user here so hoping I can get this right but please can anyone help me identify this dish? It's tinglazed and really lovely quality BUT I just can't seem to identify it at all.
Many thanks, hopefully!
