Nicely made but it was a virtual production line of throwers, decorators and firers, and hundreds of kilns in its heyday. I don’t think it can be attributed to any one potter unless you have a list of names and try to match the decoration with known pieces by them

Even if you, Naomi or myself tried to attribute it, it would just be a guess. However, what I am prepared to say is that it isn't by any of the major Mashiko players.

I have this book, which lists over 100 different Mashiko potters both living and dead. it has a photograph of them + a piece of their work and many words about them but not one in English. Having looked through that it really supports my initial feeling that it's a factory made piece.
