Stoneware Mystery Bottle

Greetings,

I found this stoneware piece - I liked the shape - anyone recognize the signature?  

When I first looked I thought it seemed like japanese but now I am not sure!

8" height
4.5" diameter
Base diameter is a tad less than 3"

I know it doesn’t quite look like a bird but I’m sure I’ve seen a similar mark which was an odd bird. And yes pottery afterwards.
