Poole Pottery up to 1959 & Traditional

Can't seem to find the exact FU pattern, if that is what it is, but the style fits
for the early 1950s on a shape 301 cigarette box.

Is this 50's

Just picked up a mountain of early 1920's/1930's Poole in auction. I sent my father off with instructions and we got nearly every lot in the collection that had come up. I am sure the one we lost was sold to one of the people on here Anyway it looks great together and will probably get an outing at the next Alexander Palace or Peterborough fair.  

I got 2 of the lots, probably paid more than I should have ( why do I keep doing that )but they were the best 2 ( in my opinion ). When I looked at the lot with all the jam pots in I noticed that only a few of the lids matched the pots, it may just be that they were mixed up when they were put out for viewing but you may want to spend a pleasant half hour playing 'match the lid to its pot'.

I went through a game of match the lids earlier. Apart from two I think managed to match them up. Pleased we got both lots with lids as they had mixed them up across the lots.

I wanted the group of vases you bid against my father on . But as you say the price went way beyond the maximum I had agreed with my father. For me stars of the show from what we got was the carter vase center of the picture and the are pair of carter candlesticks at 2 o'clock in the picture. These are all very saleable in my opinion and will go well with some other 20's/30's ceramics I have picked up recently.

Your pair of candlesticks are v. nice. My lots of vases and jugs all had good patterns and shapes and were in good condition. The only 2 pieces which had condition issues have already been sold.

For a company with such a large output and such a long history these 1920's/1930's items area actually hard to get hold of. Not sure why, if people are simply holding on to them but I have struggled to get a great idea of what to price some of these at. We have the odd silly slipped through the cracks ebay item. But finding a good bench mark for the biscuit barrels and jam pots with wicker handles is not easy. They don't come up. Vases on the other hand are much easier. As for the candlesticks I can only find a picture of one other in that shape and it was almost plain. Lots of guessing my side.

If you're going to be at Kempton on the 9th ( thats assuming i will be going ) then I'll try and give you a few pointers as to values.

Thanks PP. Not sure what stall we are bringing next week. Could be the more general one with a wider mix (ceramics/other stuff)as its Aug. The full on art pottery one is certain for Alexander palace at the start of Sept and of course Peterborough.

Poole Freeform jam pot

Pattern code is NN, know as 'featherdrift'. I have a friend who has a cabinet full which she is looking to sell, just in case you want to add teapots, sandwich platters, cruets, tureens etc. etc.

Small vase  8.3cm tall,  decorated in the CS pattern.  Factory mark of the type used in 1952-6 - or is that the 1970s mark? -  and a painters mark which I think is for Pat Dightam.



 

It is the later mark, 1970-1999, you can tell as the words are slightly angled at each end, the earlier mark, 1951-55 gives a 'square' shape to the stamp. The paintress is therefore Sue Pottinger and while she is usually associated with 'one-off' chargers and other studio pieces I have a small piece of traditional with her mark from the late 90's.

I think this is a 1970's one though, when Sue had her first spell at Poole. Known as Susan Allen in those days.

It does look more like a 70's piece. My vase is BN patt, moulded ( visible mould lines ) but in a fancy box and the 1995+ studio mark, no. 97. I think the box is worth more than the vase!

Yes I know the handle is shanked but I think this is a pretty cool little jug and in a more unusual colour
