w. German pot - 269-18 unusual shape?

I am sure this is not that unusual, but it is a shape we hve not come across before and wondered if anyone had anything they could add please?

Hi, it's by Scheurich and the shape is known as Wien (Vienna) - 1970s production.

Is this considered a commercially desirable shape and colour? (If it was in a blue or red I think the marbling would be striking!)

Not especially I'm afraid. Whilst the shape is nice I agree, the brown glazes are much less sought after than the very bright and crusty ones and, of course, Scheurich mass produced most of their output so it's not a particularly scarce shape either. The money in Scheurich tends to lie with particularly sought out designs and glaze finishes like Montignac for example.

I'm not sure if its investment or an innate need to buy pots. Something to do with being born and bred in the mother town of Burslem and growing up surrounded by crocks and pots...... Most of my family worked and breathed in the great and good factories. Am often referred to kindly as a clay head......

So, whether I actually like the item and of course the price is the deciding factor and both purchases today cost £5.

I actually paid £3 for the large one, so its an even better buy....

Pip- Have checked out Montignac on "Fatlavalady" site, which has some stunning pots!! However, Montignac wouldn't be my choice, I'm afraid. Some others though really appeal.... Apart from your own site, which we visit regularly, can you or anyone else kindly recommend other sites to "learn & digest"....

Hi Sharron, Forrest Poston's website has some well written and incredibly useful essays and information about WGP - www.ginforsodditiques.com.

There are also other specialist online forums around that have a particular emphasis on WGP (I'm almost certain you'll be approached by one in particular at some point soon) however, whilst their information is good the individuals involved are particularly belligerent so I'm afraid I won't recommend or publicise them.
