and, Why did they continue makring them 'foreign' after WWII? - Probably because there was little change in manufacturing practices during the 30-50s due to the recession years and lack of funding for restructuring.

btw, what's that Portuguese green majolica pottery called Subtile or something? Can't find it on google and I've got a frog somewhere with it stamped on the base, but that's gone missing too. This box might be by that company.

Sadly not as classy as other Secla pieces..so i'm guessing quite modern. Piggy box...but strangely/uniquely with handles on top

I found this very cool bowl yesterday. On the reverse, incised into a small unglazed area are the words "SECLA" and "PORTUGAL" I will try to upload the image but it's very hard to read. The bowl is "clam shell" shaped. When it sits on the table in tilts forward. Dimensions of the opening are about 25cm x 19 cm. I didn't see anything else like it on this website or looking around on Ebay, so I'm curious if anyone knows anything about it. I am actually going to Portugal in a few days so it was kind of a coincidence that I found it.

Thanks! If you look at the white area in my picture you can almost make out the "SEC" in the top half. Wanted to point that out. I'll be going into a few museums in Lisbon and Porto in the next couple of weeks so will also ask around there.

Definitely SECLA.
The pattern is from c.1954, designed by Ferreira da Silva.
