Damaged glass bird
Hello everyone; I picked up this rather heavy, but broken bird today. Its beak has been chipped.
Does anyone know if I can repair it? Sand it down in any way??? Im up for a challenge
Also I dont know who its by (if its Chinese, its going in the bin! ), so if anyone knows or has any idea - that would be great. thank you x

Re: Damaged glass bird
Looks like it might be Antonio Da Ros for Cenedese (Murano).
Polishing small chips is easy... but not that cheap. You'll need a very fine grit diamond whetstone to take the chip out (sandpaper is too coarse), and then several grades of diamond paste on a felt bob, applied with a hobby drill, to polish out the marks left by the whetstone.

Re: Damaged glass bird
mmmmm........in my humble opinion, my piece doesn't quite look like the real thing. No signature and the shape is not quite right

Re: Damaged glass bird
If you wanted to get it fixed professionally, you'd have to get it done by a glass restorer. Unless your jeweller friend is very nice.
Actually, I'm fairly sure that the bird is Cenedese - they were all made by hand, and for quite a few years, so each one is different. Some had elongated bases, some didn't, some had the bubbles, some didn't. Etc...
And not everything Cenedese did was signed either - I've had quite a few pieces with just labels.

Unsigned, without bubble, short base, label only:

So there was a lot of variation.
