this snail, butterfly, strawberry plant design is very unusual, the quality is much better than any other Chelsea pottery I have experienced, I just wish we has a Chelsea expert on the forum as the more I see the more questions I have

this is my favorite piece from the estate of Joyce Morgan, the firing damage pales into insignificance when you look at the mad expression on the face of this bird.
I love the way this piece was constructed, the tail feathers look like Shojigami work! This surely was a labour of love Most Excellent

(Hopefully) My first piece of Chelsea.
No stamp, but looks right to me (what do I know Um... ).
I'm guessing no one else spotted it, as mine was the only bid so I got it £20, which I'm happy with and certainly less than you usually see them for.

Yeh, I also think he's great.
I guess I may have just got lucky. Because he isn't marked, he wasn't listed as Chelsea, so perhaps the Chelsea buyers never spotted him ? I was certainly surprised he never had any bids. I'm also being refunded a little on the postage as was charged 1st class recorded, but it was sent 2nd class.
So total cost just over £23 Most Excellent

Out of interest, I stuck a pencil up his hole Big Shock , he is hollow to the top of his head, which makes me even more surprised at the weight.

r.e. Dantheman's comment- I am actually "the guy" who 'runs' Cheddington Studio Pottery which is actually my personal studio pottery collection (I am a woman actually) celtic_fan, your model is absolutely right in every way and is definitely genuine.
Sadly Joyce died relatively recently after a number of years in a nursing home.
There were LOTS of students and amateurs who decorated at Chelsea over the years, some good, some bad so the quality of the decorating varies wildly. There were about 10 really good decorators over the years and lots of rather poor ones. Hope this helps.

I am not offended Dan -a man could have a husband and son and could be called Wendy but it would be a bit unlikely lol! Will be around as much as I can- the areas I know something about are Wenford Bridge and Chelsea but my sister-in-law knows more than me about both as she worked there

Dan- your blue lady is by Barbara Ross, one of the very first Chelsea decorators. Will work though some of the others as I know most of the main decorators

Pip- You are right. There are no books on Chelsea- have tried to persuade my sister-in-law to write something but although she was there for a long time and Joyce rated her as one of her best decorators, she says she can't remember enough to write about as it was too long ago!

(I don't know all the decorators by the way- just most of the good ones- there were lots that only stayed very briefly and no-one remembers who they are)
